La Caricature, political-satirical magazine, originally published 1830 - 1835 |
|
This publication contains ca. 2,100 pages the content of which was originally published by the founder Charles Philipon.
These ten volumes are famous for its political-satire caricatures created by Daumier and other well known
French caricaturists of this time such as Grandville, Belangé, Traviés; included are also texts from Honoré de Balsac
and Victor Hugo. However, in the year 1835 further publications were forbidden by the 'Citizen King' Louis Philippe.
The purpose of La Caricature was "...to enter into the world of politics with a weapon
(meaning caricatures) in the hand" (issue no. 55,
17 November 1831).
Our unique publication contains also the rare original 'Zero-number' of La Caricature and three additional
supplements, which were found recently in some libraries in France.
