   Medieval Manuscripts
The 15 Pal.lat. Manuscripts were part of the famous Palatina Library in Heidelberg, Germany. In February 1623 - during the war in Europe - this library was transported to the Vatican Library in Rome. These manuscripts are still in the Vatican Library and still have their original signature Pal.lat. (Palatini Latini).
Some of these manuscripts were donated to the Palatina Library through marriage, others as a gift.
Five manuscripts are written in medieval French, three manuscripts are related to Conrad Kyeser.
The most beautiful illuminations in this collection here are in Boccaccio's Decamerone.
The world-famous Byzantine manuscript, Barberini graecus 372, believed to be created in the 11th Century - commonly known as the ‘Barberini Psalter’ - came into the Vatican Library in the year 1902. Barb. grec. 372 is part of the ‘Barberini-collection’, founded by Cardinal Francesco Barberini (1597 – 1679). This manuscript is also available on CD-ROM (in colour). If you require more information for Barb. grec 372, please contact us.
